Portland Port
Portland Port, situated at the heart of England’s south coast, offers quick and easy access to the English Channel shipping lanes and continental Europe. Shielded by the Isle of Portland and its extensive breakwater, Portland Harbour provides sheltered waters spanning nearly 2,500 hectares. Depths range up to 15m at the inner harbour anchorages and up to 20m in the outer harbour. With more than 2,000m of operational berthing, 16 commercial berths, and with depths alongside up to 11.7m. The port’s capabilities were boosted in 2022 by a £26m berth development, which provided 16,000m2 of additional quayside space across the port's two main operational berths, Deep Water Beth (DWB) and Outer Coaling Pier (OCP), enabling both to now accommodate cruise ships up to 350m long.
Portland Port is a cruise success story and now attracts over 50 calls and 100,000 guests annually, solidifying its status as the largest cruise port in South West England. It also serves as a vital cargo gateway, handling over 500,000 tonnes yearly across various sectors, including containers, general cargo, bulk, and project cargoes. In addition, Portland Port remains a key partner for the Ministry of Defence, regularly hosting vessels from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
The port is also home to marine engineering firms Manor Marine, Manor Renewable Energy, and Global Marine Systems. Offering a plethora of vessel services including pilotage, towage, bunkering, waste management, ship-to-ship transfers, in water surveys, stores transfers and crew transfers, Portland Port stands as a versatile maritime hub.
