Canford Renewable Energy

Canford Renewable Energy Ltd (CRE) is a renewable energy company with over 25 years’ experience in renewable energy. Initially a pioneer in landfill gas electricity generation, CRE is a leading provider of innovative and sustainable energy solutions, committed to reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental stewardship. CRE is at the forefront of the UK’s clean energy transition. Its flagship project, Dorset Green Hâ‚‚, is the South West’s first solar-to-hydrogen facility located in Wimborne, near Poole. The £6.5m development includes a 5.0 MW solar park powering a 1 MW electrolyser, producing green hydrogen, a clean, zero-emission fuel which is supplied to local and national businesses. Co-located with a 2.5 MW landfill gas engine, the site combines baseload and other, more, intermittent renewables, providing a model for hybrid clean energy systems. The project was delivered with support from Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership’s Growing Places Fund and a grant from Dorset Council’s Low Carbon Dorset programme, reflecting the county’s collaborative approach to enabling clean growth. CRE is also developing battery storage schemes to complement renewables and strengthen grid resilience. Dorset, including BCP, offers a powerful platform for clean energy investment, with a strategic location near transport corridors, ports and universities; strong policy and funding support; a skilled workforce in engineering and environmental sciences; and brownfield redevelopment opportunities that turn disused land into productive green assets. CRE’s ongoing performance highlights Dorset’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. By advancing decarbonisation, stimulating the hydrogen economy and leveraging local strengths, the region is emerging as a UK clean energy super-cluster—with interesting propositions and prospects for investors
